• Select the color from the largest pattern of your house

Deciding on the color palette of your house is the last and final step. So why not take an idea with any accent piece which is a prominent item in your home. Let's say you can begin with a large rug or any patterned upholstery.

Their color amalgamation will give you an idea of what can go with the walls.  For instance, you can use the combinations of neutrals and beiges if the pattern is of a similar tone.

• Start with the most centrally located room of your home

One of the most prominent areas of your house is either the kitchen or the living room. Deciding on the color scheme of either of these will ease your task for other rooms, too. Starting with the living room, select a soft neutral tone to give a warm and welcoming effect.

For the kitchen, you can go for white or beige, complementing with the drawers and cabinets. Lighter shade in the kitchen will make it appear visually larger and neat and tidy.

• Start with a vertical color scheme from dark to light

According to the famous designer, Mark McCauley, "Any interior space replicates the outside world." So, if you take a look outside, it is darker below the feet, the medium tone when you look straight and lighter towards the sky.

Follow the same pattern for your house. Select a darker color for the floor, medium colors for the walls, and light shades for the ceiling. This will change the whole aura of your house.

• Separate preference for upstairs and downstairs

If there are two separate floors, then consider them as two different entities. Both the feet have a different set of rooms and can be painted accordingly. Downstairs comprises of living area, hallway, and kitchen. Select neutral color tones for it.

The upper area mostly consists of bedrooms and a lobby which can be toned in bold colors. Say, for the kids' bedroom, bright and bold colors are a great option. For the master bedroom and guest room, chose light colors in similar shades. Focusing on one floor at a time will make your task a lot easier.

• Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important factors that can constantly change the entire look of the house. While finalizing your home's color scheme, consider the areas that get the leading lights during the daytime.

The actual colors are visible during the day when there is ample natural light, and the hues are altered with the dawn. Go for more neutrals and beiges for the areas that receive maximum sunlight and bold colors for the shady areas, which require artificial lightings as they will shine more.
